Unplanned dental expenses can really bite. That’s why you have two great dental coverage options to sink your teeth into.

You have two choices for dental coverage through Delta Dental of North Carolina, the Core Option and the Premium Option.

The Core Option

The Core Option covers 100% of preventive care (like routine cleaning and exams) and 80% of basic care (like fillings) when you visit an Delta Dental provider but does not cover major care (crowns and bridges) or orthodontia. The paycheck contributions are lower than they are for the Premium Option, but the annual benefit maximum (the total amount of expenses the plan will cover in a year) is lower.

The Premium Option

The Premium Option covers 100% of preventive care and 80% of basic care (similar to the Core Option) when you visit an Delta Dental provider but it also covers 50% of reasonable and customary expenses related to major care and orthodontia. The paycheck contributions are higher than they are for the Core Option, but the annual benefit maximum is higher.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Delta Dental PPO and a Delta Dental Premier dentist?

With a Delta Dental PPO plus Premier plan, you may save more money and receive higher levels of coverage when visiting a Delta Dental PPO dentist. Delta Dental’s PPO dentists have agreed to accept lower fees as full payment for covered services. However, if you go to a dentist who doesn’t participate in Delta Dental PPO, you can still save money if the dentist participates in Delta Dental Premier plan network. Like PPO dentists, Delta Dental Premier dentists agree to accept Delta Dental’s fee determination as full payment for covered services. Find a provider today [English Flyer] [Spanish Flyer].

Do I have to go to a participating dentist?

No, you may visit any licensed dentist; however, you may pay more money out of pocket at a nonparticipating provider.

Do I need an ID card to receive services?

No. You can simply give your provider your member ID and advise they are with Delta Dental of North Carolina. However, if you’d like one, you can print an ID card on the member portal when you register.

Where can I find information about my eligibility and claims?

Once you’re enrolled with Delta Dental, you can review your eligibility status, claims information, and benefits by visiting the member portal. You can also find this information on the Delta Dental Mobile App [English Flyer] [Spanish Flyer].

I was in the middle of dental treatment with my Ameritas dentist. What should I do?

We encourage you to complete any multiple-step procedures in progress (like crowns, bridges, or dentures) prior to the effective date with Delta Dental. However, Delta Dental will cover services that are completed after the effective date where applicable.

My child’s orthodontic treatment is in progress. What should I do?

If orthodontic treatment is currently in progress for you or one of your dependents, ask the dentist to submit a new treatment plan to Delta Dental. The remaining liability of the claim will be recalculated based on the number of months left in the treatment plan. Delta Dental may also receive the orthodontic lifetime maximum history from Ameritas. Your orthodontic maximum benefit available under the new plan will be reduced by the benefit amount used under Ameritas.
